When Sara Olsher was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 34, her first thought was how to tell her six-year-old daughter without scaring her. As it turned out, explaining cancer was only the beginning. Treatment is long and causes a lot of ongoing changes in the family - all of which can be confusing, scary, and isolating for kids.Join Stinkerpants and her stuffed giraffe Stuart as they explain the science of cancer and how a loved one's diagnosis and treatment affects a kid's day-to-day life. What Happens When Someone I Love Has Cancer? uses bright and fun illustrations to show how cells can turn into cancer and helps reduce confusion about how cancer treatment affects a person and the kids in their lives."Most of the time we do the same things in the mornings. We wake up. We eat breakfast. (I like apples. Stuart only eats bugs.) . . . When something big changes, what we do each day can change too. Stuart wants to know what happens to our days when someone we love has cancer."Aimed at families with kids ages 4 to 10, Stinkerpants + Stuart books are based on decades of solid science about how kids learn and cope with the major day-to-day changes that result from issues like cancer. This guide will help you to better understand your loved one’s need for care and how you can effectively provide it, while still maintaining your own good health. There are three important rules for good family care: 1. Love is never enough. You can love someone utterly and completely, but without the right tools and education, you can fail as a caregiver. 2. You have to take care of yourself in order to be able to take care of your loved one. If you fail, there will be two people who need a caregiver -- you and your loved one. 3. What you don't know or understand can hurt you and your loved one -- when you learn about what ails your loved one, you can also learn about what will make care better.

Following her own treatment for cancer, Lori Hope created a survey for cancer survivors addressing issues they wanted their families, friends, and caregivers to understand. The results of the newly expanded survey are presented with honesty, insight, and humor, and complemented by scores of compelling personal stories from survivors of diverse ages and backgrounds. If you are a caregiver, Help Me Live will help you communicate more effectively and respond more compassionately. And if you are a survivor, it will help you feel validated, empowered, and, ultimately, hopeful.

This book was published to help give cancer patients going through chemotherapy treatment a way to stay organized. From my own experiences with chemotherapy I created this helpful tool to help you through out your difficult time. The doctor always asked me, what were your side effects, what did you eat, and do you have any questions for me. Well half of the time, I did not have an answer because I had information scattered around some info in this binder, some info in that binder. I could of really used something like this during my journey. You will get lots of binders and books with information and statistics. This is the exact opposite. It is for you to fill with your information, not be reminded that you are a statistic. I hope that this book offers that little piece of mind to help you stay organized during treatment.
