Years ago I read the book The Beautiful Side of Evil.
It scared me.
That’s putting it lightly.
Johanna Michaelsen writes about her experience in the occult and the Bible’s perspective on it. One thing which stuck out to me was how she described yoga. I wish I had a copy of the book (I read a library copy) so I could cite it properly, but she said that there is an evil component to yoga. It is an invitation for devils to invade the mind.
Upon reading this I decided I would never do yoga. Yet something happened. I noticed Christians all around me were doing it. They would rationalize it by saying that they weren’t doing the meditations, so it’s okay. It’s just exercise.
Several years after I read the book I thought I would buy one of Denise Austin’s yoga videos. I mean, what could it hurt? I was just going to do the exercises. But as we began and she described the poses, one in particular bothered me. It was called Sun Salutation. ABC of Yoga shows the series of poses which are included. Click on the link and watch it. With your eyes wide open. Pretend that you’ve never seen this before.
What did you honestly think? Did it seem to be just an exercise? I know when I tried to do the positions the first time, the Holy Spirit spoke so clearly to my spirit. ”Stop! Now!” he said. How could I do anything but obey? I just knew it was a worship of the sun.
That has never left me. My precious Holy Spirit left a clear impression on my heart. However, I didn’t want to just leave it there. I wanted to find out why yoga is not good. What I found was truly terrifying.
Caryl Matrisciana grew up in India and due to this fact, she has seen firsthand what goes on with yoga. In her film, ”Yoga Uncoiled: East to West”, Caryl speaks of her interviews with yogis (those who teach yoga) and asked this question: Is it possible to separate the physical exercise from the spiritual? You know what their answer was?
No. Not possible.
In an interview (which I share the link for below), Caryl tells us that “there is no yoga without Hinduism and there is no Hinduism without yoga…Yoga means to yoke, unite with god consciousness. Many of the positions used in yoga are the names of the deities…and those positions are a deity that you become and you merge with within an eastern worldview.”
Hinduism is a religion of the serpent and yoga is a worship of the serpent. Who is the serpent? None other than Satan himself. He wants to be like God and he wants the adoration that belongs to God alone.
When doing the poses and the meditation, one opens himself up to the demon world. Caryl tells us that the “om” posture is actually a vibration which is sent out to different deities to pull them in.
But what about making it Christian? Wouldn’t it be okay to use God’s name instead of a pagan deity’s? I mean, can’t I use this opportunity to get to know God on a different level? This is not possible. The Hindus explain that one cannot replace Hindu gods with the Christian God. In fact, the Hindus are quite angry with Christians for trying to Christianize yoga, because yoga was specifically designed to be part of the Hindu religion. To try to is to open one’s self up to demonic forces.
Shouldn’t it be acceptable, though, for some who have physical problems to experience the benefit which yoga provides? I’m sorry, but, no. There are other ways to provide relief. You can do basic stretches or some other exercise your doctor would recommend. There’s nothing wrong with physical exercise. But we must remember, yoga is not just exercise.
I hope no one misunderstands me. I don’t look down my nose at anyone who participates in this practice. I believe that Satan is the master of deceit and he is using those who call themselves Christians to deceive many. I only want to inform my readers of the very real danger which yoga brings.
The Bible states if we walk in the Spirit, we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. (Gal. 5:16) How can we do this if we are allowing other spirits to have influence in our lives? We need to take a step back and ask ourselves the honest questions.
Why am I not experiencing the fulness of the Spirit? Why am I still struggling with sins I should have had victory over a long time ago?
The answer may be less complicated than we think.
1. This is all explained in the video I included.
